This advanced level course links stability theory with practical applications The purpose of this course is to provide the participant with an in depth understanding of fundamental principles of ship construction and theories and factors affecting trim and stability and measures necessary to preserve trim and stability. The course also provides knowledge for the application of stability and trim diagrams and stress-calculating equipment, and knowledge of loading cargoes and ballasting in order to keep stresses within acceptable limits. The course further examines the effects and trim and stability in damaged conditions and the recommendations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), concerning ship stability.

The examination must be written with Transport Canada.
