Description
This course is an advanced industrial fire team course and a continuation from the Incipient Industrial Fire Team Member course. This course is designed to enable the student to understand the role of a member of an industrial fire team for exterior firefighting and to demonstrate the practical aspects of exterior fire suppression. This course reflects the requirements outlined in the NFPA 1081, 2018 edition, Standard for Facility Fire Brigade Member Professional Qualifications. This standard, in part, identifies the minimum job performance requirements for advanced exterior industrial fire team member.
Learning Outcomes
- To enable students to better understand the behavior of fire and why it behaves in a particular manner.
- To enable students to better identify the advantages and limitations of personal protective equipment.
- To help the students to develop appropriate fire attack strategies for exterior firefighting.
- To provide students with the knowledge of BLEVES.
- To provide students with the knowledge of firefighting foam.
- To enable the students to focus on the team approach in emergency situations.
- To provide students with a better understanding of an incident management system during an emergency situation.
- To provide students with a better understanding of the standard operating procedures during an emergency situation.
- To provide students with the ability to safely perform advanced exterior firefighting.

Marine Institute approved medical clearance;
Marine Institute approved Fit Test;
Marine Institute Incipient Industrial Fire Team Member Course or approved equivalent
Notes
To comply with Provincial OH&S legislation the OSSC requires all students participating in this course to be clean shaven and must provide a fit test certificate (quantitative) for use of Scott AV 3000 style face piece. Fit testing for this training can be completed at the OSSC. Please note that there is a fee associated for this service of $65 plus tax.
Please be advised that the OSSC daily course schedules are subject to change and all participants should be prepared for course deliveries outside normal business hours (i.e. evenings and weekends). You will be notified if any such change is necessary. In the event of inclement weather, students should visit www.mi.mun.ca for important announcements regarding class cancellations and rescheduling. Announcements regarding class cancellations will also be on local radio stations.
If you are eligible to receive a T2202A for tax purposes, they will be available on Short Course Registration in February of the following year. Students are advised to log into your Destiny account in order to print a copy of your T2202A form.
