Description

This entry-level course is designed to provide mariners with a basic knowledge of ships machinery and engineering, including electrical systems. In addition, the course includes an in-depth study the following acts, regulations, codes and orders.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply FAO/ILO/IMO Safety Code for fishermen

  • Follow safe working practices on fishing vessels

  • Conduct boat and fire drills; know means of exit

  • Comply with Canada Labour Code

  • Understand Canada Shipping Act, 2001

  • Implement fire safety regulations

  • Maintain life-saving equipment

  • Apply Marine Occupational Safety & Health rules

  • Follow Marine Personnel Regulations

  • Comply with pollutant discharge reporting

  • Prevent pollution and handle dangerous chemicals

  • Follow confined space safety procedures

  • Handle hazardous materials safely

  • Maintain vessel certificates compliance
