Description

This course is designed to cover the required topics as identified for Naval Architecture as well as the relevant material from IMO, STCW Model Course 7.04. This is a requirement for officer of the watch (4th class STCW) as identified in Transport Canada Publication TP 2293 – Training of Marine Personnel and delivered according to the standards established within TP 15030 – Block Credit Course Accreditation.

Learning Outcomes

  1. To provide students with the Naval Architecture knowledge required from Sections 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 from IMO Model Course 7.04.
  2. To provide students with the problem-solving skills required to perform calculations important for stability.
  3. To provide students with the knowledge and skills to sketch and understand ship construction and ship arrangements.
  4. To provide knowledge of the principal structural members of a ship and the proper names of the various parts. Upon completion knowledge should be such that students are capable of intelligent observation during the ordinary course of their work and could make adequate reports describing the location and nature of faults or minor damage discovered.

Prerequisites

Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.

Notes

Students must attend 90% of all synchronous lectures. Participation in asynchronous activities is required.
