Description

This course is designed to give the student training in the operation of Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems for different types of vessels. It will give the student an in-depth understanding of the operation of the DP system. The course will include exercises on a DP simulator that will allow the student to plan and carry out a variety of routine DP operations as well as observe and develop responses to various emergency and failure situations.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course the student should:
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the practical aspects of a variety of DP operations.
  • Have the capability to plan and conduct DP operations, including risk assessment, contingency planning and assessment of vessel capability.
  • Be able to carry out effective communications.
  • Have the ability to undertake DP operations with due regard to all circumstances of seamanship and operational requirements.
  • Have the ability to react correctly to any circumstances which constitute or could lead to a catastrophic failure.
  • Be able to practice effective teamwork.
  • Have acquired a knowledge of unwanted DP incidents
