Description

This course is designed to provide students with basic practical experience of marine transfer from pilot boat to vessel using a pilot ladder.

Learning Outcomes

To provide students with the knowledge to be able to:

  • Examine pilot ladder construction and condition and evaluate whether it is safe to use.
  • Identify hazards associated with climbing a pilot rope ladder.
  • Know when it is, and is not, safe to undertake a marine transfer and the effective use of ALL STOP (abort and reassess risks).
  • Understand and be resilient to peer and client pressure.
  • Review basic sea survival techniques.
  • Prepare for practical field training.
