Description

This course directs participant attention to standard operating procedures, communications, situational awareness, short-term strategy and bridge team management. Reviewing and focusing on the tasks of planning, executing, and monitoring the progress of the vessel in a simulated environment should heighten the awareness of team members.

Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:
  • Comprehend Maritime Crew Resource management as it applies to the safe and efficient operation of ships.
  • Understand the factors affecting human performance relating to managing ships.
  • Develop good communication, situational awareness and anticipation skills.
  • Develop the capacity to build a shared mental model.
  • Apply explicit task allocation.
  • Establish a shared vocabulary to facilitate communication and leadership at sea.
