Description

This course is designed to provide students with standards for familiarization and basic safety training as well as competencies to cope with such hazards and emergencies to the extent appropriate to their functions onboard passenger-carrying vessels. It will also provide seafarers with an understanding of measures to be taken in order to ensure safe operation of passenger-carrying vessels.

Learning Outcomes

Those who successfully complete this course should be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities of personnel providing direct services to passengers in passenger spaces as defined in section A-V/2 and A-V/3 of the STCW Code, which include, but are not limited to:

  • To identify awareness of life-saving appliances and control plans.
  • To assist passengers en route to muster and embarkation stations.
  • To identify mustering procedures for passengers.
  • To effectively communicate to passengers during an emergency.
  • To demonstrate to passengers the use of personal life-saving appliances.
  • To understand any operational limitations imposed on the ship and to understand and apply performance restrictions.
  • To understand responsibilities with embarking and disembarking passengers with special attention to disabled persons and persons needing assistance.
